Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team says no charges should be laid against an RCMP officer involved in an alleged case of invitation to sexual touching.

In October, the RCMP referred a report that one of their male officers may have allowed a three-year-old girl to touch his genitals.

SIRT says the officer’s wife cared for the girl in their home a few days a week between September 2013 and June 2014.

They say the girl, now four years old, made two brief comments to her parents in July that suggested that the officer had allowed her to touch him. However, they say the girl didn’t provide any further details when asked by her parents, and the original comments could also be interpreted to mean something else.

The girl did not disclose any facts about the matter when SIRT started investigating the allegations in October.

SIRT says the officer and his wife both gave statements saying that he had no significant contact with the child. The officer also passed a polygraph exam.

The investigation has concluded that there isn’t enough evidence to support charges against the officer.
