Police in Saint John are expanding their search for a 19-year-old woman reported missing earlier this week.

Genevieve Mary Cormier was last seen Sunday afternoon in uptown Saint John. She was reported missing on Monday.

“It’s a nightmare, I’m going to be honest,” says her father, Jason Cormier.

Her family and friends are helping search crews comb the city and police say they are making her disappearance a top priority.

Search crews focused on the area surrounding the Reversing Falls on Thursday.

“That’s just so we can do a grid search to exhaust the area, just to look for anything we can find, an earring, anything,” says Cormier’s sister, Katie Noel.

Police say there have been several unconfirmed sightings around the city but so far they have no leads in the case.

Cormier’s father and brother have flown from Alberta to join in the search. They say they are devastated by her disappearance.

“For her not to answering her phone or calling anybody or Facebooking anybody, this is so out of character,” says her father.

“It’s completely out of character,” says Noel. “She always lets her mother know where she is. She always talks to her friends, her family.”

Cormier is a student at Saint John High School and was doing a co-op program at a daycare. Her family says she had plans for her future.

“She’s a very healthy, happy person,” says Noel. “She had a bit of anxiety in the past but she was working through that. She’s a very positive, very happy person, so this is not like her.”

Police say Cormier doesn’t have a history of running away and, so far, there is no indication of foul play.

Cormier is five-foot-seven, 120 pounds, with a thin build. She has hazel eyes and long, brown hair which she usually wears down straight or in a ponytail.

She has pierced ears, a blackbird tattoo with a partial lyric on her right shoulder blade and often wears a large amount of bracelets.

Anyone with information on Cormier’s whereabouts is asked to contact police.
