PORT HAWKESBURY, N.S. - The mayor of Port Hawkesbury, N.S., says he's confident his town's shuttered paper mill will reopen in one form or another.

But Billy Joe MacLean says the former NewPage mill will likely operate with less than the 600-employees who used to work at the plant.

MacLean says the Strait area would be "grateful" if that's the result because the other prospect is losing the mill entirely.

Court-appointed monitor Ernst & Young is expected to announce the purchaser of the mill's assets on Jan. 20.

The monitor disclosed two weeks ago that four bids for the mill's assets were received.

Two of the bidders would operate the mill, while two would sell off its assets.
