Two women in Moncton are working hard to ensure everyone gets on Santa’s nice list this year.

Over the next 30 days, Jenna Morton and Natalie Davison are challenging people to perform predetermined acts of kindness and share their good deeds on social media.

The self-proclaimed Christmas enthusiasts say they came up with the idea of Project Nice List while sharing a cup of coffee.

“She’s a huge Christmas fan, I’m a big Christmas fan. We started talking and the next thing we knew, we had a 30-day challenge called Project Nice List,” says Morton.

Over the next month, participants can check Project Nice List on Facebook to learn about the challenge of the day.

“The first challenge is to go out in your community and give away a sweet treat. Candy canes are our treat of choice,” says Davison.

Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold joined in the fun and brought homemade cookies to Moncton City Hall on Thursday.

When completing one of the challenges, people are asked to take a photo or a short video and post it to Project Nice List on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

“Some of our challenges will be in the aim of driving people to local charities and supporting a lot of the work that our organizations do over the holiday season,” says Davison.

They say they have received lots of positive feedback about the project and have even heard from people in other communities.

“We’ve already had leaders from other communities contact us and say ‘What’s your program and how did you do this? We want to replicate it in our city,’” says Morton. “So we are going to put together some material when we’re done that we can use to share with other cities and other groups that want to do the same kind of thing.”

Morton and Davison hope the idea will snowball this year and beyond. They are already compiling a nice list of good deeds for next year.
