HALIFAX -- The Serious Incident Response team in Nova Scotia is investigating an arrest where the RCMP say a woman was injured after she was bitten on the leg by a police dog in Halifax.
The police oversight agency was asked by the RCMP to look into the case after the woman was arrested in the Hammonds Plains area after 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Mounties say that when they arrived they found a 51-year-old man suffering from stab wounds that were serious but non-life-threatening.
Police say when they attempted to arrest a 48-year-old woman, she fled to a wooded area and was believed to be armed with a knife.
RCMP Const. Mark Skinner said Wednesday that a Halifax police dog bit the woman during her arrest and she was taken to hospital for treatment.
