Sobeys Inc. is recalling its Compliments brand broccoli slaw due to a possible listeria contamination.

The product was distributed to stores in all Canadian provinces – including New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island - with the exception of Quebec.

The affected product is sold in a 340-gram bag with a best before date of Nov. 25, 2016.

The UPC code is 0 68820 10422 3.

The recall was prompted by the results of a test conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, which is conducting a food safety investigation. The CFIA says the investigation could lead to the recall of other products and that it would notify the public through updated food recall warnings.

No illnesses have been reported so far, but the CFIA says the recalled product should be thrown out or returned to the store where it was purchased.

It also says the food may not look or smell spoiled, but could still make someone sick.

Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.

Anyone who falls ill after consuming a recalled product is urged to call their doctor.
