Police in Nova Scotia’s Pictou County are investigating after a tractor-trailer carrying 42,000 pounds of snow crab was stolen.

The 2007 Freightliner was taken from the Nova Truck Centre in Westville sometime between Friday night and Sunday morning.

Police say the snow crab, which was destined for Japan, is treated with a chemical used when transporting seafood across long distances.

They are concerned someone may eat the crab because the chemical could be dangerous.

“It can be lethal … it’s not a consumable product at this stage,” said Westville Police Chief Don Hussher.

They say the green truck has the number 29 on both corners of the hood, a red and black coloured G on both doors and has Glencoe Mills Trucking Ltd. on it.

It has New Brunswick licence plate number PTW 079.

Its white trailer is 12 metres long, has the letters NYK in blue and the Nova Scotia licence plate PT 58845.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact police.
