A group of students at a school in Brookfield, N.S. has been getting annual lessons on making Christmas wreaths from a world record holder.

Thirteen students from the extended program support class at South Colchester Academy are making Christmas wreaths and centerpieces.

“It gives them a life skill of how to do this, good teamwork and it also, they're getting better at it. So they don't seem to need as much assistance,” says teacher Shelly Roberts.

The lead instructor is the queen of Christmas wreath making. Carolann Naugle, from Bible Hill, N.S., has claimed Guinness world records for the largest natural wreath, and making the most wreaths in a 24-hour period.

Naugle was first invited to share her seasonal talents with the students eight years ago.

“The kids all seem to enjoy it, so I come back,” says Naugle. “They enjoy it, I enjoy it.”

The students range in age from 12 to 18. Some have made several wreaths over the years and it's become a special holiday tradition.

“I just love working with all the kids and making it. It's so fun and exciting, like lots of things, just in the holiday spirit. It's really good to do,” says student Glenda Patterson.

Edward Fisher is looking forward to finishing his wreath and showing it to others.

“I just take them home and we hang them on our front doors and then everybody who comes to our door just gets to see it and see out good work,” says Fisher.

“He's happy and I'm happy to help him,” says Fisher’s Grandmother Carolyn Cahill. “All these people here, they're just great. They just love to do it.”

Naugle says the students are getting better at making wreaths every year and says there may even be a future record holder in the group.
