A 51-year-old man has died after crashing his vehicle on New Brunswick’s Elsipogtog First Nation.

The RCMP responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday.

A few minutes later, police received a second call about a single-vehicle collision near the intersection of Levi Street and Sunset Drive.

Police say the driver, and sole occupant, managed to get out of the vehicle, but was then struck by an oncoming vehicle on Levi Street. The man died as a result of his injuries.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the first crash.

The driver of the second vehicle was arrested after police determined he had been prohibited from driving.

The 33-year-old Baie-Sainte-Anne man was remanded into custody and is due to appear in Moncton provincial court on Thursday.

The incident remains under investigation and an autopsy and toxicology reports have been ordered for the victim.
