A 63-year-old man died Tuesday after his car collided with a dump truck in Cape Breton.

RCMP say the crash took place in a construction zone near the Cheticamp Motel in Cheticamp around 10:30 a.m.

They say the dump truck was travelling north on the Cabot Trail and the car was travelling south when they collided.

The driver of the car later died from injuries sustained in the crash while a female passenger received only minor injuries.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

Police say the road was closed for several hours Tuesday while investigators attended the scene.

It has since re-opened.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

The victim’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.
