A Nova Scotia woman is remaining hopeful her sister, who disappeared more than two weeks ago from a small town in Saskatchewan, is still alive.
Brenda King says she wants to find her sister, Carol King, before she returns home next week.
Carol King, who is originally from Newfoundland, was last seen on August 6. She reportedly chased two men out of her yard the night before she disappeared and relatives say she complained to police that someone was harassing her.
The 40-year-old vanished just hours before she was scheduled to meet with RCMP in Rosetown.
Her car was found submerged in a slough in central Saskatchewan earlier this month. An RCMP dive team scoured the bog, which was later drained, but found no signs of King.
Police also found no evidence after searching a second nearby slough and the surrounding area.
Cpl. Rob King – who is of no relation to the Brenda and Carol King – says police have brought in cadaver dogs to assist in the search.
"Cadaver dogs have special abilities," he says. "They're able to detect blood and blood odours and they're also able to detect a cadaver under the surface."
But Brenda King believes her sister has been abducted and may still be alive.
"I still have hope, I still have hope she's out there," she says. "I know they're out there looking for her - any bodies or whatever - but I still feel that she's out there."
She flew from Nova Scotia to Saskatchewan and organized a full-scale search for her sister shortly after she went missing. The family is offering a $25,000 reward to anyone who brings Carol King home safely.
Brenda plans to move some of Carol's things back to the East Coast and a fundraising dance will take place in their hometown of Mattis Point, Newfoundland on Friday.
Donations can also be made at any RBC Royal Bank or TD Bank location.
