NEW GLASGOW, N.S. -- Police in New Glasgow, N.S., were dispatched to a local high school Wednesday when a local resident reported seeing a youth carrying a handgun.

When officers confronted the student at New Glasgow Junior High School, the student turned over a toy gun that looks a lot like the real thing.

Police determined there was no criminal intent and no charges will be laid.

The 13-year-old student said he bought the replica pistol to fire some caps.

Const. Ken Macdonald of the New Glasgow Regional Police says displaying a replica gun in the community can cause "havoc."

He says school officials will be dealing with the incident.
