STEWIACKE, N.S. - Opponents of a natural gas storage project in Nova Scotia say they will meet later today to discuss their next move.

About 100 Mi'kmaq protesters and Stewiacke residents held a peaceful protest this week along Highway 102.

Organizer Cheryl Maloney says they want the $100-million project stopped because they fear it will contaminate local waterways.

She says there hasn't been enough consultation with native and non-native residents in the area.

Alton Natural Gas Storage wants to store natural gas in three underground salt caverns.

The company plans to drill into the salt formations and pump in water from the nearby Shubenacadie River to dissolve the salt.

The leftover brine water would then be pumped back into the river system.

Maloney says there is no protest planned for today.
