A young pilot and his new fiancé are flying high after a proposal in the sky.

Sunday afternoon, flight instructor Noah Goldman and his girlfriend Sasha Stairs boarded a two-seater plane in Fredericton, like they had many times before. However, this flight would be different from all the others and it was all caught on a camera set up in the cockpit.

In honour of the one year anniversary of the couple’s first date, Goldman decided performing a few tricks in the air would be a fun way to celebrate.

The romantic afternoon in the clouds quickly turned into a fearful flight for Stairs.

“When he first said ‘okay, we lost a lot of fuel pressure,’ I was like, ‘well will that recover?’” says Stairs. “Because I was thinking, ‘oh that'll be okay,’ but as soon as he put out the mayday call, that's when it sort of sunk in that okay, this is really serious.”

While Stairs tried to remain calm, Goldman talked of engine failure, fuel pressure, and emergency landings, all part of his master plan.

“I kinda looked at it like I had to take it on as a role, I had to believe it myself, because if I didn't then she would've known,” says Goldman.

Goldman told Stairs he needed her help preparing for the emergency landing they were about to make on a stretch of highway. He asked her to read a check list in one of the plane’s manuals and as she started to read, the instructions caught her by surprise.

Goldman had edited the emergency checklist as part of his proposal plan.

“Continue with emergency landing procedure below, okay, seven love of pilot, well I've got that,” laughed Stairs. “Confirm fully operation, eight reciprocal values unconditionally, forever, what? Is this a joke?”

That’s when Goldman turned to her and popped the question.

“Sasha Marie Stairs, I love you will all my heart, more than I could ever possibly imagine loving anyone and there's nobody else I want to spend the rest of my life with. Will you marry me?”

Goldman says bringing his two passions together made for the perfect proposal.

“I just wanted to combine my two greatest loves, which are her and flying and just one day the idea came.”

The sky high proposal took Stairs completely by surprise.

“Internally I was panicked,” says Stairs. “I didn't know what to expect, but I had full faith in his ability as a pilot.”

And faith in him as a future husband, as she was quick to accept his proposal.
