The community of North Sussex united in a country church to pay respect to Milton Fowler Gregg, a man decorated with the Victoria Cross in the First World War and the most decorated Royal Canadian Regiment.

"Milton Gregg was born here in King's County, in this farmhouse on Snider Mountain," said Padre Mike Gibbons. "His exploits did not end on the battlefield. He went on to become the M.P. for this area, a federal cabinet minister and president of University of New Brunswick."

Every year, Gregg's gravesite serves as a community cenotaph.

He is remembered as a man who defended his country, educated people and first and foremost never forgot where he came from.

"It's not just Snider Mountain," said Marc Milner, a historian at U.N.B. "Within a four or five mile radio, you got Pleasant Ridge and Kierstead, and they all believe he is their own. He was their own because he never forgot them."
