Halifax Regional Police say no further charges will be laid against an off-duty police officer involved in a collision in Dartmouth last month.

Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision in the 0-100 block of Prince Albert Road around 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 17.

Witnesses reported that a car travelling east on Prince Albert Road struck a power pole and the driver fled the scene on foot.

The responding officer identified the suspect as an off-duty police officer and noted signs of impairment.

Const. Ryan William Morris, 24, was arrested without incident and charged with impaired driving.

Police say they have completed their investigation into the collision and, after consulting with the Crown, have determined no additional charges will be laid.

Morris is due to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Dec. 23.

Police say Morris has been with the Halifax Regional Police for just over a year and is suspended from duty with pay.

Under the Nova Scotia Police Act, suspended officers must receive pay and allowances for at least 60 days during their suspension. After 60 days, the Chief of Police can make a determination as to whether the suspension will be with or without pay thereafter.
