The parents of a missing Nova Scotia teen appealed to the public today, asking for help in locating their daughter.
Marjorie and Donald Kirwan joined police at the New Glasgow detachment around 1 p.m. They are the parents of 19-year-old Amber Kirwan, who disappeared from a New Glasgow pool hall over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Donald Kirwan remained silent, but Marjorie Kirwan described her daughter as "sweet and innocent."
"She's not only beautiful on the outside, she's beautiful on the inside," she said. "She's always been very respectful of our feelings."
"We are very proud parents."
She spoke of Amber's future plans to become a licensed practical nurse and said she is a student at the Nova Scotia Community College. She said Amber would make a wonderful nurse because "she's compassionate." She also said that Amber was excited about moving into an apartment with her boyfriend back in June.
"She still had her goals of education and working part-time," said Marjorie Kirwan. "Even after moving out she would text me to say, ‘mom I'm going to Halifax for the day, just in case you're wondering where I am.'"
She described Kirwan as a typical teenager who loved life and loved to shop and go to the movies. She also said Kirwan was very protective of her younger brother and made regular contact with him.
"Her family, boyfriend and friends mean the world to her."
But Amber Kirwan hasn't been seen since she left Dooly's around 1:30 a.m. on October 9.
She had been out with friends and was supposed to meet her boyfriend, Mason Campbell, at Big Als, a convenience store located just up the street from Dooly's, but she never arrived.
"For weeks now we've been praying that any day she will be home," said Marjorie Kirwan. "We miss her and love her very much."
Police, RCMP and search crews scoured wooded areas and river banks for clues in the teen's disappearance. They also seized Campbell's car, but it has since been returned, and no arrests have been made in the case.
Now Amber Kirwan's parents are making a public plea for her safe return.
"We are requesting the public to come forward with any information they may have regarding the missing of our daughter, no matter how small or irrelevant they may think the information is," said Marjorie Kirwan. "Come forward and let the police decide if the information is relevant to the investigation."
Anyone with information on the case is being asked to contact New Glasgow Police or Crime Stoppers.
