Nova Scotia's annual gift to Boston has arrived and will soon illuminate the Boston Common for the 40th time.

The large evergreen Christmas tree from Ken and Donna Spinney's property in Central Argyle, N.S., made its way to Massachusetts in three days on the back of a large truck donning a blue sign that reads "Nova Scotia tree for Boston."

The 40-year-old tradition commemorates Boston's helpful hand during the explosion that devastated Halifax in 1917.

The tree will be lit on December 1st between 6 and 8p.m. in the Boston Common. Local school children and Santa Claus will also be in attendance.

This year, Nova Scotia also sent four other seven-foot tall trees to other Boston charities that help support low-income individuals by offering food and shelter.
