HALIFAX -- Nova Scotia's environment minister has revoked an operating approval for a quarry project near a Halifax suburb.

Andrew Younger announced Tuesday that there's been a lack of public consultation for the four-hectare project in the Fall River area.

The project was proposed by Scotian Materials Ltd.

Younger says in a news release his decision came after reviewing an appeal of the approval granted last month by his department.

A group called the Stop Fall River Quarry says on its website that it and several other community groups had appealed the approval in late September.

Younger said reviews of remaining appeals will continue.
