RCMP divers are searching several bodies of water in the Sheet Harbour, N.S., area, where the remains of two men were found in the rubble of a burned out cabin in 2012.

Officers won’t say what led them to the area, but say they are there in relation to the unsolved homicides of Matthew Hebb, 22, and Earle Stewart, 59.

Their families are pleased the investigation is moving forward.

“For those three years it did feel like nothing was happening and it wasn't going anywhere,” said Hebb’s mother, Kirtley Beaver.

Two people were arrested following the fire, but were later released.

No one has ever been charged.

“We've always been actively investigating and we continue to do so today,” said Const. Mark Skinner of Nova Scotia RCMP. “The evidence has lead in this particular direction and as such we're searching bodies of water for evidence.”

Officers won’t say specifically what they’re looking for.

“I can tell you they're looking for evidence in homicide cases, but I can't get into specifics of what they're actually looking for,” said Skinner.

RCMP say the search could continue Wednesday and possibly after Christmas Day, depending on what they find.

“I'd love to have that Christmas miracle and have them find some evidence,” said Beaver. “I'd like them to finally arrest somebody.”

Beaver says she may never find closure, but she’s hoping to find justice.

“These two people didn't deserve to die. Please, if anybody knows anything, make that phone call.”

Earle Stewart’s wife, Tracy Stewart, says she’s also pleased to have something happening in the case. She says it's difficult to get her life together when she doesn't even know why her husband was killed.
